William Moore faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving while suspended with a prior conviction, and disorderly conduct.
According to a probable cause affidavit written by Jasonville Police Officer John Pease, the officer was on patrol around 12:40 a.m. when he observed a vehicle traveling on State Road 59 near County Road 900 North. After observing the vehicle and receiving information from Officer Skylar Scott that it had crossed the center line on State Road 48, officers followed the vehicle into the parking lot of Casey's General Store in Jasonville.
Court documents allege the driver, later identified as Moore, stumbled out of the vehicle and quickly entered the store. When he returned to the vehicle, officers attempted to make contact with him. According to the affidavit, Moore initially ignored officers and started his vehicle before being stopped.
Investigators reported detecting the odor of alcoholic beverages and observing signs of impairment. The affidavit states Moore admitted he had consumed vodka and told officers he was only a few blocks from home.
Police asked Moore multiple times to participate in field sobriety testing, but he refused, according to court records. After being read Indiana's implied consent warning, Moore also refused a chemical test, allegedly telling officers, "No I will not, I have been drinking vodka."
During the arrest, officers allege Moore repeatedly yelled obscenities in the Casey's parking lot, drawing the attention of bystanders. The affidavit states officers instructed him numerous times to stop yelling and causing a disturbance.
According to court documents, Moore also became combative during a search and resisted officers’ attempts to escort him to a patrol vehicle by pulling away and planting his feet.
A records check allegedly revealed Moore's driver's license was suspended and that he had a prior conviction for driving while suspended in 2023.
Police later obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, which was conducted at Greene County General Hospital. The results of the blood test are pending.
Moore was subsequently booked into the Greene County Jail where a bond of $5,000 surety with 10% cash allowed was set.
