John Robert Gentry, 84 of Linton, IN passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, at Glenburn Senior Living Center in Linton, IN. He was born in Carlisle, IN July 27, 1941, the son of Marcus Gentry and Lillian Mable Mitchell Gentry.

John was retired from Crane Naval Support Center, a member of the Pleasantville Community Church, Linton American Legion Post #22, and a Lifetime Member of the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary England Gentry, infant daughter, Janet Marie Gentry, two sisters; Shirley Archer and Mary Arnold, brother, Aubrey Gentry a grandson, Travis St. John, and a great granddaughter, Annika Morris

Survivors include two sons; Mike Gentry (Rosa) of Linton, IN, James Gentry of Aurora, IN, four daughters; Deborah Hauck (Jerry), Rhonda Mason (Dale), Leslie Reed all of Linton, IN and Alana Duckwall (Matt) of Clay City, IN, a brother, Edgar Gentry, two sisters; Mandy Russell, and Arlene Godbout of Pleasantville, IN, 11 grandchildren; Kenny Tuttle, Richie Chubb, Danielle Angelini, Stacey Chubb, Meagan Gentry, Sarah Williamson, Luke Hutcherson, Elizabeth Duckwall, Anna Duckwall, Mikayla Morris and Geoffrey Gentry, several great and great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Newkirk’s Funeral Home in Dugger, IN with Pastor Abram Beck officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until services Thursday. Burial will follow in the Dugger Cemetery with Military rites by the Linton American Legion Honor Guard.
