Linton man accused of possessing methamphetamine after arrest on warra

A 34-year-old Linton man faces additional charges after deputies allegedly discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia while serving an arrest warrant June 3.

Joshua T. Foster was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. He was also taken into custody on an unrelated invasion of privacy warrant issued earlier that day by Greene Superior Court.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Greene County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 950 West near Linton at approximately 3:58 p.m. after the Indiana Department of Child Services requested a welfare check on Foster due to concerning statements he had reportedly made.

Officers were also aware that a warrant had been issued for Foster's arrest.

Deputies learned Foster was at a nearby recycling yard south of Worthington and located him walking with another individual. According to court documents, officers informed Foster about the warrant, and he appeared nervous and attempted to walk away before being taken into custody without incident.

While deputies were speaking with Foster, investigators allege he began removing items from his pockets and handing them to another man so he would not have to take them to jail.

According to the affidavit, a deputy observed Foster hand over a paper towel containing a glass smoking device with burned residue and a red plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance.

Investigators stated the glass pipe was consistent with devices commonly used to ingest methamphetamine.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Foster reportedly told deputies he believed there was a bag inside the paper towel but claimed it had been handed to him by an unknown person shortly before law enforcement arrived.

Deputies later interviewed a man Foster had reportedly spoken with at the recycling yard. According to court documents, the man denied giving Foster anything and said Foster became concerned after seeing law enforcement arrive, telling him he could not go to jail.

The suspected methamphetamine was later field-tested at the Greene County Jail and allegedly produced a positive result for methamphetamine.

Foster was booked into the Greene County Jail on the outstanding warrant as well as the new drug-related charges.
