Kay C. Sisk, 78, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 1:37 a.m. on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, in the emergency room at Greene County General Hospital - a place that held special meaning in her life, where she had served others as a nurse and found great purpose in caring for her community.

Born in Linton on October 12, 1949, Kay was the daughter of Clyde "Buddy" Workman, Jr. and Helen Lois (Cox) Workman. She was a proud 1967 graduate of L & M High School and went on to graduate from the Ivy Tech Nursing Program in 1974. Nursing was more than a profession to Kay; it was a calling. Throughout her career, she cared for countless patients as an emergency room nurse at Linton's Freeman Greene County General Hospital and Greene County General Hospital. She also served as Assistant Director of Nursing at Trilogy Nursing Home before retiring. Kay especially enjoyed sharing her knowledge and encouraging the next generation of caregivers through her work teaching Certified Nursing Assistant courses.

Kay's life was guided by compassion, faith, generosity, and a sincere love for people. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton and treasured her connection with the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, where she served as a Providence Associate. Her faith was reflected not only in the way she lived, but in the quiet, thoughtful ways she reached out to others.

A gifted writer and devoted correspondent, Kay had a special way of making people feel remembered and loved. Whether through a handwritten card, a heartfelt note, or words shared from the heart, she used writing to keep close to the people who mattered most to her. She was social by nature, warmly welcoming and deeply giving, and she never missed an opportunity to offer kindness, encouragement, or support.

Kay also held a deep love for animals. Her compassion extended beyond people through her volunteer work with the Greene County Humane Society. She found joy in their companionship and in helping provide them with care.

To her family, Kay was a treasured keeper of memories. As the family historian, she devoted countless hours to genealogy, researching names, preserving stories, and honoring the generations who came before. Through that work, she created a lasting gift for her family - one rooted in connection, history, and love.

She is survived by her sister, Debbie McCallum; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Shaw (Kelly), Jeff McCallum (Abby), Bob Lewis (Penny), David Lewis, Cindy Leadman, Mary Zygai, Anthony Lewis, and Nathan Lewis; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry forward her memory.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde "Buddy" Workman, Jr. and Helen Lois (Cox) Goodman; her sister, Connie (Bennie) Lewis; her brother-in-law, Tim McCallum; and her beloved longtime companion, Kurt Axe.

Kay will be remembered for her caring heart, her dedication to nursing, her generosity toward others, her devotion to family history, and the many small but meaningful ways she made those around her feel seen and loved. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched as a nurse, family member, friend, volunteer, and faithful woman of compassion.

A funeral service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, of Walton Funeral Service, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Kay will be laid to rest next to her parents and Kurt at Prairie Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Greene County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
