Tornado sirens to be tested in Linton and Lyons on June 1

The Linton Police Department will conduct its quarterly tornado warning siren test at 1 p.m. today, June 1, weather permitting.

The test will include the warning siren systems in both Linton and Lyons and is intended to ensure the equipment is functioning properly.

Officials emphasized that the activation is only a test and there is no emergency.

According to the department, outdoor warning sirens are activated during severe weather emergencies when the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for the area or when a tornado or funnel cloud is reported by a trained storm spotter.

Residents are encouraged to use the test as a reminder to review their severe weather safety plans and ensure they have multiple ways to receive emergency weather alerts.
