Linton to host pickleball tournament to kick off summer events

A new community event aimed at bringing residents together and supporting future local activities is set for early June at Humphrey’s Park.

A pickleball tournament will be held June 6, beginning at 8 a.m., at the park, located at 1300 NE A St. The event will feature women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles divisions, with prizes awarded to participants.

The entry fee is $50 per team, and registration is available through the Linton Utility Office or by contacting city employee Tomi Anderson.

According to Anderson, the tournament is part of a broader effort to increase community engagement and build momentum for additional summer programming.

“We are striving to get the community involved in some events this summer,” Anderson said. “This is just the beginning of a lot of fun activities.”

Many of those activities are expected to coincide with Linton’s annual Freedom Festival, with proceeds from the tournament helping fund upcoming events.

Organizers hope the pickleball tournament will draw a strong turnout and become a recurring tradition.

“We would love to make it an annual event if we can get a great turnout,” Anderson said.

The tournament is open to players of varying skill levels, offering both competition and an opportunity for community members to connect as summer begins.
