A Linton police officer responding to a house fire escaped serious injury in a crash late last night in the Linton area, but a patrol vehicle was totaled then caught on fire.

The officer was treated for unspecified injuries then released. On Saturday morning, LPD Chief Troy Jerrell said, “We’re just glad he’s ok.”

LPD Reserve Officer Indiana Miller was responding to a house fire in the county, outside the Linton city limits.

One officer had just arrived on the scene of the fire and Miller was on his way when the crash occurred around 10 p.m., Friday, August 3.

Chief Jerrell said Miller was travelling on an unfamiliar road where the road turns to the left just over the crest of a hill, on County Road 1375 West, north of State Road 54.

Miller’s vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree.

The patrol vehicle was a total loss.

Miller was able to exit the vehicle, then a short while later, the vehicle caught on fire and burned.

Miller was transported to Greene County General Hospital where he was treated and released.

Besides the Linton Police Department, other personnel known to have responded to the crash scene or fire scene included the Greene County Ambulance Service, Wright Township Fire Department and Linton Fire Department.
