A woman, who allegedly broke into a house where she once lived then attacked another woman who confronted her, was in court this week facing charges of:

  • Residential entry – breaking and entering a dwelling, a Level 6 felony,
  • Battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor, and
  • Criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor.

Amy Lynn Crane, 39, of rural Worthington, formerly of Linton, was arrested on Wednesday, July 25, by Detective Paul Clark of the Linton Police Department.

Clark was dispatched around 11:30 a.m. that day after LPD Dispatch got a 911 call that Crane was inside someone’s home and had attacked another woman.

When Clark arrived, a man was holding Crane on the ground and he could see that a door to the house looked like it had been kicked in.

According to Clark, Crane said a few weeks prior, she had lived at the house with a man (not the same man who had been holding her on the ground) but he had left and when she returned to the house, the doors were locked and she had not seen him since. She told Clark she was there gathering her belongings when the woman came inside the house and began shoving her. She said she was inside the  house because she was just getting the items that belonged to her.

Clark then spoke with a couple who were taking care of the property for the owner, including the woman who Crane allegedly attacked and the man who had been holding Crane on the ground.

During these conversations, Clark learned that a previous resident had defaulted on a contract and left, so the woman, a representative of the owner, had changed the locks and secured the doors about three weeks earlier.

Then on the day of this incident, the couple had dropped by to check on the house and found a door forced open. The woman said when she walked inside, she encountered Crane, who shoved her into a wall, causing an injury to her wrist, then Crane started shoving her down and kicking at her. The man then secured Crane on the ground while the woman called police.

Crane was arrested and transported to the Greene County Jail where her bond was set at $6,000 surety with ten percent allowed.
