Greene County Emergency Management officials confirm that a tornado impacted the City of Linton on Sunday, December 28, 2025. The National Weather Service has determined the storm to be an EF-1 tornado, with estimated wind speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
City officials have declared a local disaster emergency following an EF-1 tornado that struck Linton on the evening of Dec. 28, causing significant damage to downtown buildings, homes, and utilities and displacing multiple families.

On December 28, 2025, at approx. 7:30 PM, a severe weather incident occurred across much of the area. As a result of that storm, Linton Police Department and Linton Fire Department were dispatched to an upstairs apartment of a building on S. Main St. where a family of five was reported to be trapped in an apartment with a collapsed roof. Linton PD and FD personnel responded and almost immediately rescued four of the five family members, including three young children. The fifth person was trapped beneath the debris of the collapse, which had to be removed piece by piece. After removal of that debris, the fifth subject was rescued from the collapse as well. All five were transported to Greene County General Hospital for treatment.
A severe storm that tore through downtown Linton on Sunday evening caused damage in several areas of the community, including the Sportsman Pub, which partially collapsed.
Due to the severe storm that moved through our area, there are multiple downed power lines across town and a partial building collapse in the downtown area. For everyone’s safety, please avoid traveling into town and stay clear of downtown until further notice. Emergency responders and utility crews need the roads and impacted areas kept clear so they can work safely and restore conditions as quickly as possible.
The boil advisory issued by the Linton Water Department has been lifted as of Friday, Dec. 27.
