Tornado impacts City of Linton; response and recovery efforts ongoing
/Greene County Emergency Management officials confirm that a tornado impacted the City of Linton on Sunday, December 28, 2025. The National Weather Service has determined the storm to be an EF-1 tornado, with estimated wind speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
As a result of the tornado, one individual sustained injuries, and eleven residents have been temporarily displaced due to damage to their homes. The American Red Cross is actively working with displaced individuals to provide assistance and temporary housing.
Greene County Emergency Management is coordinating response and recovery efforts alongside the City of Linton, Greene County officials, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), regional county emergency management agencies, the American Red Cross, and members of the public who have assisted during the incident.
Both the City of Linton and Greene County have issued local disaster declarations to support recovery operations and access available resources.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security assisted with damage assessments and evaluations of structural stability for affected buildings to ensure public safety.
A 211 Hotline has been established for residents impacted by the tornado. Individuals are encouraged to call 211 to report property damage, request assistance, or receive information on available recovery resources.
Emergency officials continue to assess damage and support recovery efforts. Residents are urged to remain cautious around damaged structures and to report hazards to local authorities.
