Eric L. Rogers

Eric L. Rogers, 77, of Linton, passed away peacefully at his home in rural Lyons at 7:40 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Born on October 3, 1948, in Linton, Indiana, Eric was the son of Miles and Edith (Clayton) Rogers.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served a short time during Vietnam. Over the years, Eric’s life carried him across the country - from the Arizona desert to the California coast to the sunshine of Florida - before returning home to Indiana in 1988, where his heart always truly belonged. He worked passionately in every role he held, whether as head custodian in California schools, a car salesman, a jailor turned Jail Commander at the Greene County Jail, or finally as a Bailiff with the Greene County Courthouse. His steady presence and humor made him a friend to many and a respected colleague wherever he went.

At home, Eric’s greatest joy could be found outdoors. His yard was his canvas - and he treated every blade of grass like a masterpiece. Neighbors could often find him mowing, taking pride in his perfectly kept lawn, towering tomato plants, and thoughtful landscaping. He had an eye for beauty, whether in the antiques he collected or the mushrooms he hunted. But above all else, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, Olivia and Trey, who brought laughter and light to his later years.

Eric leaves behind his daughter, April (Troy) Jerrell; his son, Brian Rogers; his grandchildren, Olivia and Trey Jerrell; and several nieces and nephews who will miss his generous spirit and playful grin. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Rogers; his parents; and his siblings, Charles, Miles, Jack, Robert, Phyllis Pittman, Betty Bland, Lenora Rogers, and Alona VanDeventer.

A funeral service celebrating Eric’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home of Walton Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Those who knew and loved Eric will remember him best with the hum of a lawnmower in the distance, a tomato ripening in the garden, and a heart full of pride for family and home.
