Maurel Clifford “Tuffy” Turpin
/Maurel Clifford “Tuffy” Turpin, age 88, of Worthington, passed away peacefully at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on February 20, 1937, in Calvertville, the son of Chester and Eva (Bowersock) Turpin.
Maurel graduated from Worthington Jefferson High School with the Class of 1955.
Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, which took him to California. Following his honorable discharge, he worked at Kaiser Steel and later at Libby Glassware. After moving to Mooresville, he helped pave State Road 67 before finding work at Crane. He eventually joined General Motors, where he worked on the assembly line until his retirement.
Maurel was dedicated to his community and fellow veterans. He served as a past Post Commander of the Worthington American Legion and was a member of the Linton VFW. He was also a member of Worthington Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marry Dee Turpin; son, Kevin Andrew Turpin; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Troy, and Dustin; several great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Young; brother-in-law, Jeff (Janet) City; and sister-in-law, Zenobia Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dana Martin Turpin; and his siblings, Alfred Turpin, Iva Hubbard, Bernadine Kay, and Loren Turpin.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington of Walton Funeral Service, with Pastor Mark Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.
