Around 10:30 this morning, Monday, August 31, Shari Lewis, the Health Administrator at the Greene County Health Department, issued a COVID-19 Alert for residents in the Jasonville area where there’s been an increase in the number of cases reported in the last couple of weeks. Advisory below:

The following advisory is issued to Jasonville and Linton area residents:

The Greene County Health Department has surveilled an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks specific to the Jasonville and Linton areas (42%-Jasonville and 34%-Linton of the cases reported in the last two weeks).  Due to the uptick in cases, residents of these communities are urged to proceed with diligence and are cautioned to adhere to the following recommendations.

  1. Seniors and individuals of any age with serious chronic medical conditions, who are at increased risk for severe disease should avoid nonessential travel.

  2. All should avoid contact with sick individuals and wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

  3. All should avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; and, wear a mask in public.

  4. If you are sick, stay at home.  Work with family and friends to have food, hygiene and medical supplies delivered until you are well.

If everyone adheres to the recommendations listed above, we can effectively reduce the spread of the virus.  The Greene County Health Department will continue to issue area alerts and will notify the public when the spread has been successfully reduced in your local area.

A free COVID-19 testing site is located at the Fairplay-Grant Fire Department, 206 Charlotte, Switz City, IN.  The test site is open to individuals with or without COVID-19 symptoms starting at age 1 year and older.  Register in advance at https://lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling 1-888-634-1116.  Walk-ins are welcome.

COVID-19 Alert issued for Greene County late Monday night by the Greene County Heath Department:

Greene County continues to see COVID-19 spread throughout the community with 63 cases during the week of Monday, August 17th through Sunday, August 23rd.

We've had cases where individuals have gone to work, to church, and to school sick inadvertently spreading the virus—not realizing that their symptoms were indeed COVID-19 related. These actions have resulted in community spread and hundreds of people have been identified as close contacts. If you are sick, please stay at home.

Do you know the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Sore throat

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Diarrhea

  • Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Fatigue

These symptoms range from mild to severe and may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.

The health department would like to reiterate the Indiana State Department of Health’s message on “emphasizing how important it is for people to complete their quarantine or isolation and to avoid going to work, to school, to extracurricular activities or to places if they have symptoms and are waiting test results or if they are a close contact of someone else who tested positive.”
