After an anonymous caller alleged drugs were being used in a house where a child lived, officers arrived, requested a search warrant and reported finding illegal substances and paraphernalia in numerous spots in the house, along with a stash of cash.

Kristen Nicole May, 40, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Marshal Wayman JR Blazier of the Bloomfield Police Department on Monday, August 24. May was booked into the Greene County Jail around 5:51 a.m.

Officer Blazier, the investigating officer, was dispatched along with Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Davis Aerne and Sgt. Bobby Pierce to a residence in Bloomfield after an anonymous caller contacted the sheriff’s department and requested a welfare check on a five-year-old child living at May’s residence. The caller also contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS).

The caller said drugs were being used at the residence, there were illegal drugs and firearms there and possibly a meth lab. They described conditions in the house that would be hazardous to a child.

The officers and a DCS caseworker arrived at May’s residence and asked to do a welfare check on the child. May let them inside and they talked to May and others who were present as well as the child. May allowed officers to look into each room to check living conditions but said they could not touch or open anything. Officer Blazier said during their look-through, they saw paraphernalia in plain view. May then refused to consent to a search and asked the officers to leave. The officers asked everyone to exit the residence and Officer Blazier requested an approval for a search warrant.

While Officer Blazier was filling out paperwork and waiting for the warrant, May said she needed her insulin that was in a black bag in the residence. The deputies located the bag but told her they would need to look through it before giving it to her. Inside her bag, they reported they found a clear plastic bag with a clear crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. May was then taken into custody and transported to jail.

When the search warrant was executed, officers reported finding numerous drug-related items. A clear plastic baggie containing a white crystal substance was found in a wicker basket in the bathroom. In a closet in a back bedroom, they found a smoking device with a clear liquid inside and a black and blue sneaker with two containers inside. One contained $2,440 cash and the other contained $140 cash. Inside a safe next to the sneaker, they found three digital scales with white residue and clear plastic baggies. In other locations they found a substance believed to be marijuana and more smoking devices and containers with either a liquid substance or a white crystal substance. They found items inside the paper tray of a printer, under a mattress on a bed, under a coffee table, and inside another sneaker that was inside a plastic tote, they found another baggie with a white crystal substance and a small glass container with a brown liquid.

All items were seized as evidence and taken back to the Bloomfield Police Department where white crystal substances tested positive as methamphetamine, plant material tested positive as marijuana. The meth weighed in at 4.15 grams total. Items were being sent to an Indiana State Police Lab for analysis.

Yesterday, Tuesday, August 26, May appeared in Greene Circuit Court for an initial hearing and was charged with:

Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,
Maintaining a common nuisance – controlled substances, a Level 6 felony,
Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and
Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

A public defender was appointed to represent May and her bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She has since posted $800 and been released from jail.
