Greene County is designated ORANGE-moderate to high community spread, for a second week on Indiana’s color code advisor map. School age children now account for 20% of COVID-19 cases nationwide due to the Delta variant. During the 7-day surveillance period of Monday, August 9 to Sunday, August 15, the positivity rate of school aged children continues to increase with 12% of cases reported in Greene County represent K12 students. COVID-19 cases will continue to increase unless more people get vaccinated and more people practice universal precautions such as staying a home when you are sick, get tested, adhering to isolation and quarantine protocols, masking in crowds, and good hand hygiene as we battle the Delta variant. The Health Department strongly recommends universal masking (fully vaccinated and unvaccinated) for all students (age 2 and older), staff, teachers and visitors in schools during moderate to high levels of community COVID-19 spread. This strong recommendation is aligned with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) guidelines……..
The Greene County Health Department issued an alert on Friday morning regarding a case of COVID-19 in a restaurant in Linton and they advise anyone who dined there last weekend to get tested.

The latest newsletter from the Greene County Health Department offers updated information on COVID-19, testing and vaccination locations and schedules. According to the newsletter, Greene County’s vaccination rate among those residents 12 and over was just over 30 percent.
The Greene County Health Department has issued a newsletter with current information and updates about COVID-19 in Greene County. The newsletter includes updated statistics, info on upcoming clinics, and maps and graphs reporting the number of people who have been vaccinated in Greene County. GCHD says, “We have done so well as a community in reducing the spread of COVID-19 by holding steady at the blue advisory level—low spread, for over several weeks. Unfortunately, our community has experienced an uptick in cases over the last 7 days that have increased our advisory level to yellow—moderate spread. Greene County will remain yellow until there have been two consecutive weeks of reduced positive cases. In an effort to keep the community moving in the right direction, the Greene County Health Department wants residents to spread information not COVID.”
The Greene County Health Department will offer Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, a single dose COVID-19 vaccine, on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Saturday, May 8, 2021 to adults age 18 and older. Walk-ins are welcome or visit OurShot.IN.gov to make an appointment. Greene County residents may call the health department at (812) 384-4496 to get help with scheduling an appointment and completing registration.
Greene County Recycling Centers will host two Tire Amnesty Days this year according to an announcement this week from Greene County Commissioner Edward Michael, who serves as president of the board of the Greene County Solid Waste Management District.
The District will host the annual Tire Amnesty on two days this year at two locations; Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Greene County Recycling Center located at 4316 W Base Road outside of Switz City, and at the Greene County Recycling Center located at SE 12th Street and SE “C” Street in Linton.
Tire Amnesty Day, which is funded by a Greene County Health Department grant, allows any Greene County resident to bring in four rimless pickup truck and passenger car tires to the recycling center at no charge. Additional tires for trucks and cars will be accepted at the rate of $2 each.
Michael noted that the county is very fortunate to have the Greene County Health Department-funded program. Old tires often hold water, which creates a breeding ground for mosquitos that carry dangerous diseases.
Walk-ins are welcome at the vaccination clinic open today (Friday, April 9) and tomorrow (Saturday, April 10) at the Greene County Events Center at the Fairgrounds. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. both days. Earlier this week, the Greene County Health Department reported only eight percent of Greene County residents were fully vaccinated but 1,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine will be available at the Friday and Saturday clinic.
As the State of Indiana has open vaccine eligibility to all Hoosiers 16 and older, the Greene County Health Department wants to ensure our residents have access to vaccines. Today, the health department has received 1500 additional doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and is hosting a Pop-up Clinic this weekend.
Bloomfield— The Greene County Health Department is launching its vaccination clinic today and administering COVID-19 vaccine to eligible recipients.
The vaccine is now available to individuals age 80 and older, as well as to licensed and unlicensed healthcare workers and first responders who have face-to-face interactions with patients or infectious material or work in a public-facing position that requires in-person contact.
The Greene County Health Department released the recent statistics, updated as of December 6, showing the increase in cases of COVID-19 in Greene County since the start of the pandemic and the breakdown of cases in each zip code in the county.
November has been our county’s most contagious month since the pandemic started with 513 COVID-19 cases up from 202 cases in October. Moving into the first week of December, the county’s positive cases rose drastically over the last seven days totaling 213 cases and one death. With the fallout of COVID-19 positive cases from Thanksgiving gatherings still being actualized and the season’s biggest holiday emerging, we are on par for an even bigger surge in the days to come. Please understand that the coronavirus has a firm grip on our communities. It is up to you to reduce the spread.
Contact tracing is handled by the Indiana Department of Health contact tracers; however, there are experiencing a delay due to the State’s surge in COVID-19 cases. State contact tracers are leaning on the local health departments to provide contact tracing assistance.
