John Scott McBride

John Scott McBride, 78, of Linton, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born September 5, 1947, in Linton, Scott was the son of Covert John "Johnny" and Marie M. (Donie) McBride. He was a lifelong member of the Linton community, rooted in faith, family, hard work, and a deep willingness to help others. Scott attended St. Peter Catholic School, graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1966, studied at St. Meinrad for two years, and later graduated from Ivy Tech.

Scott proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. After returning home, he devoted 37 years to his work as an electrician at AMAX/Kindill Mine and later served eight years at NSWC Crane before retiring. His commitment to serving people extended far beyond his work. As a longtime member of the United Mine Workers of America, Scott served for many years as financial secretary and was known for assisting widows as they navigated survivor benefits. He quietly offered his time, knowledge, and compassion whenever someone needed help.

Scott's Catholic faith was central to his life. A lifelong parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church, he spent 30 years volunteering in property management, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and briefly served as financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus. He treasured the fellowship of church functions and the friendships built through his parish community.

Scott was always happy outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, elk hunting trips, target shooting, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. Whether he was in the woods, tending a garden, sharing stories, or enjoying time with those he loved, Scott brought a steady presence and a genuine appreciation for life's simple blessings.

Above all, Scott cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Cheryl A. (Cross) McBride; his sons, Rob McBride (Leslie), Mike McBride (Kelly Russell), and Shawn McBride; and his nine grandchildren: Priscilla Bladen (Richard), Shelby Bland (Chris), Macy McBride (Kage), Dalton Ewers (Kelli), Kaylin Ewers (Niko), Merrick McBride (Rachael), Lexi Rose (Adam), Garrett McBride, and McKenzie Clifford (Brad). He was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, with one more soon to join the family. He is also survived by his sisters, Marilyn Gambill, Jody Anderson, Rosanna Richards, Christina Nelson, Kelly Aubuchon-McBride, Jean Busby, Angela Cliver, Melissa Jones, and Shawnna Christian.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ed McBride; and his sisters, Donna Bailey and Kerry Tudor.
