INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Eric J. Holcomb is directing flags statewide to be flown at half-staff on Memorial Day. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to noon on Monday, May 30. Gov. Holcomb also asks businesses and residents across the state to lower their flags to half-staff on Monday to commemorate Memorial Day.

State Road 67 closure planned in Greene County for seal coat operations in June

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure on State Road 67 just north of Switz City. Beginning on or around June 13, State Road 67 will be closed to allow for seal coat operations. This closure will take place beginning at the intersection of SR 67 and SR 54. Crews will perform seal coat operations north on SR 67 to the US 231 intersection. Seal coat work is expected to be completed by the end of June, depending on weather conditions. The official detour for motorists is State Road 54 to US 231.

Sullivan County, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces closure of State Road 54 for box culvert replacement. The closure of SR 54 will begin on or around June 2. Crews will be replacing a box culvert. Replacement is expected to take 30 days to complete. SR 54 is expected to re-open around the beginning of July. An official detour for motorists is US 41 to State Road 48 to State Road 59.

Convicted drug dealer who skipped his own trial arrested by LPD officers

Two warrants have been out for the arrest of a man accused of dealing methamphetamine who didn't bother to show up at his own jury trial in November and was a no-show at a pretrial conference in another drug case. He was taken into custody late Tuesday night when LPD officers responded to a domestic disturbance. Officers reported he was in possession of more meth and marijuana and now he has three drug cases pending against him.

On Wednesday, May 18, the Indiana State Police obtained information that Kyle Whitaker (28 years old of Bloomington) was involved in dealing heroin in and around Lawrence County. Bloomington District Troopers, along with the ISP Bloomington District ACES and the ISP Drug Enforcement Section, began an investigation that quickly led to the probable cause of the search of Whitaker’s residence on Elwren Road in Monroe County, near Greene County.

Teams from four states and Zambia graduate Indiana Conservation Officer K-9 School

Eight K-9 teams that completed the DNR Division of Law Enforcement’s nine-week K-9 Resource Protection program were recognized during a graduation ceremony held today on the south lawn of the Indiana Statehouse. Graduating teams came from the states of Indiana, Virginia, Kansas, and Washington, as well as from the African country of Zambia.
