Monday incident at group home leads to arrest

A 19-year-old Linton man was arrested Monday following an incident at a Linton group home.

Juan Sevier

Linton Police Department Officers Cayden Walker, Alan Jackson, and Bobby Pierce responded to ResCare Group Home to investigate a report of battery involving Juan Sevier.

A male subject told Officer Walker that he and his housemate entered Sevier’s room to let him know he couldn’t place items in front of the door because it was a fire hazard. Sevier then, according to the male, charged toward him and began to attack. The victim had scratch marks on his right arm, chest, and neck along with a bite mark on the left side of his chest.

ResCare employee Rebbekah Blanton advised Sevier was standing in a chair, which was a fall hazard. While attempting to talk Sevier out of the chair, Blanton said a second victim placed her hand on Sevier’s arm to get his attention. When her hand was placed on his arm, Sevier struck her with his hand three times, on both the left and right sides of her face. This caused redness and swelling to the victim’s face.

When attempting to speak with Sevier, the officers found he had locked himself in his room and had refused to speak to anyone. The ResCare staff members informed the officers they did not have access to open the door as it was locked from the inside. They also noted being fearful Sevier would come back out and act violently due to not taking his medication.

While contacting the courts to obtain a search warrant, Sevier exited his room and was placed under arrest by Officer Walker. His bond was set at $1000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

Sevier was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
