Warrant out for Switz City man accused of fleeing from deputy

A warrant was issued May 10 for a Switz City man after driving at high rates of speed to evade an officer from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

On April 22, Deputy Devan Goad of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was patrolling the Lyons area when he recognized the driver of a Ford Taurus as Seth Waskom, 47. Goad knew Waskom was wanted on warrants in the county and turned around to attempt to initiate a traffic stop.

While attempting to reach Waskom’s vehicle, Deputy Goad wrote in a probable cause affidavit that Waskom traveled at a high rate of speed, ran stop signs, and traveled as fast as 65 miles per hour on a gravel county road.

Deputy Goad traveled southbound on State Road (SR) 67 to Prairie Street where he turned west to get back onto County Road (CR) 800 West. As he was turning back northbound, he saw Waskom exit a car wash at a high rate of speed. He ran the stop sign at the intersection of Broad Street and SR 67. As Goad turned onto Broad Street, Waskom had already traveled to the gas station and was turning north onto Wine Street. Goad wrote in the probable cause affidavit that he attempted to catch up with Waskom; however, he was traveling at an unreasonable speed and failing to stop at all stop signs.

Goad then activated his emergency lights and sirens, turned onto Wine Street and began traveling north. At the intersection of Jackson Street and Wine St, he witnessed the vehicle turn east onto CR 200 South and then turned north onto CR 750 West. Goad attempted to catch up to the vehicle; however, the vehicle continued north on CR 750 West at high rates of speed to evade the deputy. In the area of CR 750 West and Base Road, Goad lost the visual of the vehicle.

After losing sight of Waskom, Goad stopped to speak with a tree trimming company he had passed earlier. One of the members of the tree trimming crew said Waskom passed them at a high rate of speed, almost striking one of the crew members.

Waskom is being charged with:

  • Resisting law enforcement, a Level 5 Felony

  • Reckless Driving Drive at unreasonable high or low speed that endangers safety, a Class C Misdemeanor
