The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance of Christina Lynn Strunk, a 49 year old white female, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 85 pounds, blonde hair with hazel eyes, last seen wearing a black floral dress, and driving a red 2016 Toyota Camry with Indiana license plate: BLZ500. Christina is missing from Bloomington, Indiana which is 51 miles southwest of Indianapolis and was last seen on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. She is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance. The bodies of Siddhant Shah, 19, and Aryan Vaidya, 20, have been recovered from Monroe Lake. This morning at approximately 11:23 a.m., Indiana Conservation Officers located and recovered the bodies of the victims in 18 feet of water in an area east of the Paynetown Marina.
INDIANAPOLIS- Jacob Magness, 23, of Bloomington, Indiana, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for possession and distribution of fentanyl and other controlled substances. Magness spent a few days in the Greene County Jail back in August of 2021 on a charge of driving while suspended - a knowing violation with a prior conviction within 10 years.
A wanted man took off and fled from GCSD deputies when he came into contact with them in eastern Greene County Saturday night and led officers from three departments in a pursuit that ended in Bloomington. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly tried to hit a GCSD deputy head on and did hit a MCSD deputy in a Bloomington parking lot. No serious injuries were reported. The suspect is in custody and has been booked into the Greene County Jail.
MONROE COUNTY, Ind.— Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to conduct daily closures next week on S.R. 48 to replace two culverts between Garrison Chapel Road and S.R. 43 in Monroe County. State Road 48 is expected to close between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, September 26, and Tuesday, September 27, weather permitting. Access will be maintained up to the point of closure. Thru traffic should use an alternate route. INDOT reminders drivers to slow down, avoid distractions and use extra caution when traveling in and near active work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
MONROE COUNTY, Ind.— The S.R. 45/46 bridge over I-69 in Bloomington (Exit 120) was officially renamed to honor fallen Monroe County Reserve Deputy Sheriff James Driver Thursday afternoon. A small ceremony took place inside the Monroe County Courthouse in Bloomington.
On Wednesday, May 18, the Indiana State Police obtained information that Kyle Whitaker (28 years old of Bloomington) was involved in dealing heroin in and around Lawrence County. Bloomington District Troopers, along with the ISP Bloomington District ACES and the ISP Drug Enforcement Section, began an investigation that quickly led to the probable cause of the search of Whitaker’s residence on Elwren Road in Monroe County, near Greene County.
On April 23rd at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers responded to the Kalao Nightclub in the 300 block of N Walnut Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers determined that multiple shots had been fired inside the bar and located three victims with gunshot wounds in the street outside the establishment.
The Indiana State Police is currently assisting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with the investigation of an airplane crash. The crash took place south of the Monroe County Airport near Tower Road in Monroe County.
On Monday November 15th 2021 @ approximately 3:30 p.m., Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a BOL (Be On the Lookout) from Monroe County regarding a white Chevrolet ¾ ton truck with the tailgate hanging off and tire damage from two hit and run collisions.

Bloomington, IN- The Indiana State Police Bloomington Post received several complaints today from local citizens reporting a phone scam. ISP receives numerous reports of phone scams each year, but this particular scam has drawn specific attention to the area.
The scammer called local citizens with the Caller ID showing “Indiana State Police” with the “812-332-4411” phone number. The scammer identified himself as an Indiana State Police officer and commenced to tell the citizen that he was the victim of ID theft. The scammer then asked the citizen to go to a local store and obtain a prepaid credit card or gift card; money that would then be used to assist the scammer to clear up this alleged identity theft.
After a teacher noticed bruising on one of her young students, an investigation began into possible child abuse. A Springville man has been accused of hitting his child with a belt and his hand causing numerous bruises. He was arrested and is facing two felony counts.
Yesterday morning, Trooper Jeremy Cox had just left the Indiana State Police Post and had turned north on Woodyard Road from Vernal Pike in Bloomington when he observed suspicious activity by two men in a red Dodge truck parked alongside a black GMC SUV that was off the roadway and had been left abandoned.
