SR 45/46 bridge over I-69 renamed in honor of Reserve Deputy Sheriff James Driver

MONROE COUNTY, Ind.— The S.R. 45/46 bridge over I-69 in Bloomington (Exit 120) was officially renamed to honor fallen Monroe County Reserve Deputy Sheriff James Driver Thursday afternoon. A small ceremony took place inside the Monroe County Courthouse in Bloomington.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 13 was passed earlier this year by the Indiana General Assembly to rename the bridge in memory of Reserve Deputy Driver, who was killed while responding to a crash on March 29, 2021. The resolution was authored by Sen. Shelli Yoder (District 40) and sponsored by  Rep. Matt Pierce (District 61), Rep. Thomas Saunders (District 54) and Rep. Jeff Ellington (District 62). Ceremony attendees included family members of Deputy Driver, Sen. Yoder, Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain and representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

As stated in the resolution, Reserve Deputy Driver "was devoted to the people of Monroe County, spending many of his days off from his primary occupation to serve as Reserve Deputy;" he was "highly regarded and beloved by the Monroe County Sherriff's Office and community." Driver was working toward becoming a sheriff's deputy after obtaining American citizenship. Much of his family still resides in the United Kingdom. Reserve Deputy Driver is being honored for his sacrifice and his service to Monroe County and the State of Indiana.
