Pipe replacement scheduled for SR 59 near Goose Pond

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for a pipe replacement project on State Road 59 in Linton near Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area. Beginning on or around Monday, Aug. 10, INDOT Maintenance crews will be replacing a culvert pipe on S.R. 59 requiring a full excavation of the roadway in this area. During this project, the road will be closed to through traffic, however local traffic will have access up to the point of closure. Work is expected to last for about 15 days depending upon weather conditions. The official detour for this closure follows S.R. 67. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

Bridge deck overlay scheduled for SR 54 near Linton

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane restrictions for a bridge project on State Road 54 near Linton. Beginning on or around Wednesday, Aug. 12, contractors will close one lane of S.R. 54 about a mile east of the S.R. 59 intersection to perform a bridge deck overlay on the structure spanning Bee Hunter Ditch. During this project one lane will be closed around the clock and traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. This project also requires the closure of 12th Street until the operation is complete. Work is expected to last until the beginning of October depending upon weather conditions. Restrictions will be in place around the clock. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

Attempted murder suspect in custody after being detained by Jasonville residents

Dustin Turley, 33, Jasonville, is in custody. Turley was wanted for attempted murder following a shooting incident that occurred in Hymera late Friday night. Turley apparently arrived in Jasonville this afternoon, Sunday, August 2, where he was detained by local residents who contacted the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Turley has been booked into the Sullivan County Jail where his bond is set at $50,000 cash only.

Jasonville man shot multiple times, another Jasonville man is on the run

A Jasonville man, Trenton Keller, 33, was shot multiple times in Hymera late Friday night and the suspect, another Jasonville man, Dustin Turley, 33, is wanted for attempted murder. Turley is on the run. Keller was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. If anyone sees or comes into contact with Turley, ISP says they should immediately call 911 or contact the Putnamville State Police Post at 1-800-225-8576.

Brown, the victim of the shooting that occurred at the Carlisle Plaza on Monday, July 13, 2020, passed away at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Sullivan County Prosecutor Ann Smith-Mischler has advised that charges against Susan Brown will be upgraded to murder.

COVID-19 Stats: Greene County data shows 11 new cases this week

When the Indiana Department of Health announced the updated statewide COVID-19 stats on Friday, July 31, the data showed Greene County with a total of 233 confirmed cases and 34 deaths reported to the state, with a total of 3,229 tested. Since last Sunday, these numbers indicate Greene County has had an increase of 11 confirmed cases and an additional 237 tested so far this week, since data was released on Sunday. The number of deaths has remained steady at 34 since Sunday.

Unsolicited seeds could wreak havoc on agriculture, environment, state officials warn

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — People across the country are receiving unsolicited packages of unidentified seeds in the mail that seem to be coming from China. The Office of Indiana State Chemist, located at Purdue University, is urging Hoosiers not to plant or dispose of the seeds since they could be spreading noxious weeds, plant diseases or invasive species. Anyone in Indiana who receives a package is told not to open the seed packet and to mail it and any packaging materials to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Indiana office.
