Lyons man charged with two counts of murder

A 35-year-old Lyons man is behind bars on several charges—including murder—in an investigation involving the death of his ex-wife and son. Joshua Alan Penick was arrested Oct. 17 by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy David Elmore. According to a probable cause filed Oct. 18 in Greene Circuit Court, he is being charged with two Level 1 Felony counts of murder for the deaths of his ex-wife, Samantha Jerrell, and her 14-year-old son. He’s also being charged with four counts of obstruction of justice, battery against a public safety official, false informing, and resisting law enforcement. He’s being held without bond.  This story will be updated.

Update: Sheriff's Department investigating missing persons

Update: Greene County Sheriff George Dallaire has released a statement confirming two deceased persons have been found; however, no other information is available at this time. Whether or not this new information is linked to the disapperance of Lyons woman Samantha Jerrell and her son, Colton, has not been determined at this time. Police are investigating the disappearance of a Lyons woman and her son, who have been missing since Oct. 13.  Samantha Jerrell and her son, Colton, were reportedly headed to French Lick but never arrived. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation but has not released an official statement at this time; however, police presence related to the investigation has been reported near Bear Run Mine in Sullivan County.

Sheriff's Department investigating missing persons

Police are investigating the disappearance of a Lyons woman and her son, who have been reported missing. Samantha Jerrell was last heard from on Oct. 13 reportedly stating she and her son, Colton, were headed to French Lick but never arrived. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation but has not released an official statement at this time; however, police presence related to the investigation has been reported near Bear Run Mine in Sullivan County.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Sept. 21 is investigating a missing person case.  Jeffrey L. Richards, II, 41, was reported missing from Bloomfield. He is 5’11” and 190 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.  Anyone with information regarding Richards is encouraged to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Department at 812-384-4411.
