Naomi Mae (Barnes) Thomas
/Naomi Mae (Barnes) Thomas, 89, entered into Heaven on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024. She was born in Flintstone, Maryland on October 4, 1935 to Herman Dietrich Barnes and Zera Jordan Dolly Barnes.
Naomi went to Hagerstown College and received her Nursing degree in 1954. She met the love of her life, Claude Thomas, when he accompanied her brother home from military leave. They married on August 27, 1954, and moved to his home state of Indiana where they built a beautiful life and legacy.
Naomi made her career in social work at Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Center, retiring after 25 years. She later worked at Walmart in Linton and retired after 15 years of service. Naomi was incredibly active in the Jasonville community, through many organizations and clubs, such as Jasonville Senior Citizen’s Center. Naomi touched the lives of so many through her years of community involvement and was a recipient of the Ed Sheppard Award. She was a lifetime member of NCFBA and Elnora Outdoor Club, a devoted member of Jasonville Assembly of God, but most of all was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved flowers and gardening, photography, and traveling.
Survivors include: daughters, Glenda Caddell, Connie Terrell, and Kelly Thomas Portteus; grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Cox, Halea (Wes) Franklin, Jessica Terrell, Cody Terrell, and Shelby (Ryan) Bixler; great- grandchildren, Malea, Xzandra, Brooklyn, Wrigley, Brynley, Tyler, Aurora, and Lucy; special son and friend, Marvin Keller; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian St., Jasonville, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 7, 2024. Services immediately following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Sam Bush officiating.
Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, Indiana.
