David L. Love, age 80 of Linton, passed away peacefully at 12:07 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born in Terre Haute on December 12, 1943, the son of James David and Brenda E. (Darnell) Love.

Dave was a 1962 of Linton-Stockton High School. He served in the United States Air force. Dave began working at NSWC Crane in 1970 until his retirement. He was a project manager, earning the rank of GS-13. During his time at Crane, Dave earned a college degree. He formerly helped Greene County as the emergency management assistant for many years. He helped in this capacity maintaining radios for the fire and police, along with other duties.

Dave enjoyed many doing many things throughout his life. From a young age to his retirement years, he enjoyed working with electronics, building and repairing radios. He spent a large part of his life operating ham radios. This led to his membership with the Amateur Radio Relay League and pastime with Dugger Amateur Radio Club, where he served as President for many years and participated in many local field Days and Ham Fest. His call letters were W9XTZ. He also took on the task of maintaining the equipment on the Ellis Water Tower. Other things Dave enjoyed include his love for lighthouses, reading the Bible and doing devotions. He shared his love of music with his family by taking them to the Oakridge Boys and Statler Brothers concerts. Until recent years, he enjoyed fishing and watching sunsets at Wampler and Reservoir 26 in Greene-Sullivan State Forrest.

Dave was a long-time member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton where he did broadcasting since 1970. For the past several years, he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Ann (Jason) Kahl of Pensacola, Florida and his son, James David Love of Linton. He also had two half-brothers, James and David Wesley Love.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ruth Ann (Talley) Love on October 3, 2006.

Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and Thursday, December 12 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Dave's birthday, 1:00 PM Thursday, December 12, 2024, with Pastor Doug Cassell officiating. Burial will follow at the Olive Branch Cemetery in Linton. Military honors will be given by the American Legion Post #22 of Linton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dugger Amateur Radio Club (DARC) or WYTJ Radio, through the funeral home.
