Roy Lewis "Louie" Howell

Roy Lewis “Louie” Howell, 95, of Bedford, Passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born November 6, 1928 in Huntington, West Virginia, he was the son of Roy Jennings and Ethel Louella (Bluhm) Howell.

Roy was a Quality Assurance Technician for NSWC Crane, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford. Roy was an amateur radio operator for 74 years; he made violins as a hobby and had a love for aviation. He was one of the founding members of the Shawnee Airport.

Surviving relatives include: Children, Gary R. Howell (Carla) of Bloomfield, Monty R. Howell (Sharon) of Bloomington and Lisa R. Flater (Michael) of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Chris A. Howell (Stacy) of Bloomington, Darren R. Howell (Skylar) of Indianapolis, Amy D. Gilham of Coatsville and Rachel M. Flater of Bloomfield; six great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Rosetta (Jackson) Howell on October 11, 2000. His second wife, Nora Evelyn (Jones) Howell on August 23, 2018, his sister, Esther Carroll Rayshich and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Interment will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in rural Lyons.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
