Beth Ann Hasler
/Beth Ann Hasler, age 72, of Bloomington, IN, passed away in her home on Saturday, December 21, 2024, with her husband and best friend, Rod Hasler, by her side. She died of complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. Beth lived with the joy of a remarkable faith in Jesus, a big and beautiful family, travel, service, and the ordinary miracles of her singular and sacred life.
Beth was born in Vincennes, Indiana on October 10, 1952, to Jesse Allen and Alice (Irvin) Letterman. She graduated from South Knox High School in 1970 and earned her Bachelor’s Degree of Public Health Dental Hygiene from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1973 and worked part-time in dental offices for many years.
Beth married Rod on April 12, 1975, and together they raised four children - Erin, Ruana, Caleb, and Nathan - in Worthington and then Linton. Beth encouraged her children’s varied interests in school, the arts, and sports, and she cheered them on enthusiastically. Beth was also a creative cook known for her spaghetti sauce, egg noodles, and Thai dishes. As a family, they enjoyed ski trips to Michigan and served together teaching Vacation Bible School and building houses many summers with Amor Missions in Mexico.
Beth helped operate Welch and Cornett Funeral Homes in Linton and Worthington, with her husband Rod, from 1976 until 2004, but they eventually began a new adventure, leaving Indiana in faith to pursue a calling in marriage and family counseling. In 2004, Beth received her Graduate Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Johnson University in Knoxville, TN, and she began her own counseling practice in Sevierville, TN. In 2008, Beth and Rod joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and served as co-chaplains for their linguistic school in Dallas, TX. In 2011, they moved to Bloomington where they served their Sherwood Oaks church family as marriage and family counselors, and in 2018, they moved to Warrenton, Virginia where Beth operated a private counseling practice until 2021 when they returned to Bloomington. As a counselor, Beth served hundreds of individuals, couples, and families, and she is remembered by many for her wisdom, strength, constancy, and kindness.
Beth was a devoted grandmother and often visited her 14 grandchildren in Indiana, Virginia, Texas, and Pennsylvania. She played with them energetically, read books out loud, sang their favorite songs, and, as they grew up, asked really good questions and offered a listening ear. She parented her adult children with love, patience, and perseverance, spending countless hours listening and laughing on the phone with each of them to erase the miles that might have threatened to separate them. She loved to laugh, and she and Rod teased each other and played often, demonstrating the power of joy and forgiveness to everyone around them.
Throughout her life Beth prayed unceasingly and lived faithfully as a follower of Jesus.
Beth is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rod Hasler of Bloomington, IN; two daughters, Erin Farley (and son-in-law Will) of Warrenton, VA and Ruana Cronin of Bloomington, IN; two sons, Caleb Hasler (and daughter-in-law Abbie) of San Antonio, TX and Nathan Hasler-Brooks (and daughter-in-law Kerry) of Pottstown, PA; 14 Grandchildren, Emmaline Farley, Owen Farley, Jonah Farley, Ruth Farley, and Clara Farley of Warrenton, VA, Ben Morrison, Baxter Cronin, and Millie Cronin of Bloomington, IN, Carter Hasler, Cole Hasler, Cohen Hasler, and Cade Hasler of San Antonio, TX, and Delmar Hasler-Brooks and Eve Hasler-Brooks of Pottstown, PA; as well as her sister, Sandy Cottingham (and brother-in-law James) of Crothersville, IN.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 PM on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, Indiana. Services will follow at 6 PM with Jeff Farley and Kerry Hasler-Brooks officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 30, 2024 at Fairview Cemetery, Linton.
