Road closures planned for State Road 57 and U.S. 231 in Greene County

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces road closures for State Road 57 and U.S. 231 in Greene County. Beginning on or around Monday, August 17, crews will begin two road closures for chip and seal road maintenance projects in Greene County. Those closures include the following: U.S. 231/State Road 67 between Terre Haute Street and the intersection of U.S. 231 and State Road 67 near Worthington. The official detour for this closure is State Road 157 to State Road 54 to State Road 57. State Road 57 between State Road 54 and Seventh Street near Newberry. The official detour for this closure is State Road 54 to U.S. 231 to I-69 to State Road 58.

Local traffic will retain access during both closures. Work on both projects is expected to take a week to complete, depending on the weather. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.

Linton police seek public’s help identifying woman in laundry theft investigation

The Linton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a woman who may have been involved in a theft at a local laundromat. Police have released photographs of the woman and a vehicle believed to be associated with the incident in hopes that someone can provide information that will assist investigators. Anyone who recognizes the woman or vehicle, or has other information related to the investigation, is asked to contact the Linton Police Department at 812-847-4411. Officers Haddix and Herndon are investigating the case.

UPDATE: Missing Greene County juvenile located

UPDATE: The Greene County Sheriff’s Department says 16-year-old Elijah Austin, who was previously reported as a runaway juvenile, has been located. Authorities had asked for the public’s assistance in locating Austin after he was last seen in the area of East Sparks Road and North State Road 45, walking north toward Bloomington.

No additional information regarding his recovery was immediately provided. The previous request for the public’s assistance in locating Austin is no longer active.

Authorities investigating fatal shooting in Greene County

Authorities are investigating an incident that resulted in the shooting death of one person Thursday night in Greene County. The incident occurred at approximately 9:31 p.m. Aug. 6 on State Road 59 South near County Road 200 South, according to information released by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers with the sheriff’s department, Indiana State Police and Greene County Prosecutor’s Office are involved in the investigation. Authorities said there is no risk to the public. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time.

Greene County authorities searching for missing 16-year-old

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help locating a 16-year-old runaway juvenile. Elijah Austin was last seen in the area of East Sparks Road and North State Road 45. Authorities said he was walking north on State Road 45 toward Bloomington. Elijah is described as a white male who is 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He has blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black cut-off shirt and lace-up boots.

Anyone who sees Elijah or has information about his location should contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Department at 812-384-4411 or call 911 to reach the nearest law enforcement agency.

Prometheus Energetics to host community open house Aug. 24

Greene County residents will have an opportunity later this month to learn more about Prometheus Energetics and its plans for a solid rocket motor and energetics manufacturing campus in the county, which is set to open in 2027. Prometheus Energetics will host a Community Open House at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Heshey Hall at the Greene County Community Event Center, 4503 W. State Road 54 in Bloomfield.

Several members of the Prometheus team, including company leadership and those involved in planning the Greene County campus, are expected to attend.
