Linton City Councilman Greg Sapp will resign from his District 7 seat effective Aug. 30 after accepting a new job with a company whose conflict-of-interest policy prohibits employees from holding elected public office.

Sapp, a Republican, formally submitted his resignation to the Greene County Clerk and Voter Registration Office. His departure will create a vacancy on the Linton City Council, with a successor to be selected to serve the remainder of his term.

Under Indiana election law, the vacancy will be filled through a Republican precinct committeeman caucus or, when applicable, a direct appointment. The process must take place within 30 days of the vacancy.

Individuals interested in being considered for the District 7 seat must complete a CEB-5 form and submit it to Greene County Republican Party Chair Jeff Ellington. The form must be submitted no later than 72 hours before the caucus.
