To help ensure the safety of all motorists, the Indiana State Police will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and DUIEP (Driving Under the Influence Enforcement Project) from July 1 to July 5. These are federally funded programs that allow extra troopers to patrol Hoosier highways during the upcoming holiday period.
Efforts will be focused on distracted drivers, impaired drivers, and drivers and passengers not buckled up. Last year throughout Indiana from July 1 through July 5, there were 2,345 crashes that resulted in 425 injuries and 13 fatalities.

Barbara Ferris, age 97, of Deer Park, IL, formerly of Worthington, passed away peacefully at 1:15 am on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, IL.
J-Kirk Wright, 69, of Linton, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday evening, February 8, 2026, surrounded by the family who meant everything to him.
Kenneth Richard Davies, 77, was born April 7th 1948 to William and Ella Pearl Davies in Linton, Indiana. Kenny went home to be with the Lord, February 2nd, 2026.
Gary “Mike” Sluder, AKA: The BIG BIG Man of Lyons – formerly of Leicester N.C., went MIA for the second and final time, at the ripe young age of 70 after one heck of a battle with every illness known to man. Oddly enough, it was his biggest attribute that took him out. His heart couldn’t take another day of the endless love he received.
Richard Lee Byrer, 59, of Lyons, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at his residence. Born December 27, 1966 in Washington, Indiana he was the son of Ray William and Lorene (Brock) Byrer.
Edward "Ed" R. McDaniels, age 67, of Jasonville, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Greene County General Hospital. He was born in Linton, IN on August 14, 1958, the son of Jack McDaniels & Dollie (Carpenter) Pickett.
Kenneth Lee Martindale, 82, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at Glenburn Home in Linton. Born on July 24, 1943, at his grandmother's home in Solsberry, Kenneth was the son of Dale and Wilma (Cox) Martindale.
Jerry F. Bellamy, 84, of Linton, Indiana, passed from this life with family by his side, on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born on September 3, 1941, in Linton, Indiana, to Fred Bellamy and Goldie (Schubla) Bellamy, who passed when Jerry was the tender age of only three. After Goldie passed, Fred married Betty Helen (Lang) Bellamy, the loving stepmother who raised Jerry. On May 12, 1990, Jerry married Luanne (Branstetter) Bellamy.
Dennis Jeff Turner, age 50, of Switz City, went to be in the arms of the Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Linton, IN on January 12, 1976, the son of Dennis Lewis & Sandra (Wildman) Turner.
Cory David Flater, 50, of Linton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, at his home. Born on February 8, 1975, in Linton to David and Marsha (Luxton) Flater, Cory spent his life rooted in the town and community he loved so much.
