In Vigo County: Collaborative Police Investigation Leads to Discovery of Narcotics and U.S. Currency

Vigo County - On Friday, April 7, 2023, after a lengthy collaborative investigation involving the Indiana State Police, Terre Haute Police Department, Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, officers were able to collect enough evidence leading to the arrest of five suspects. These suspects were involved in a large-scale methamphetamine and marijuana distribution organization.

TERRE HAUTE – A federal grand jury in Indianapolis returned an indictment today charging a Terre Haute man with the murder of a federal officer, attempted arson of federal property, and using a firearm during a crime of violence causing death. The charges against Shane Meehan, 45, stem from the July 7, 2021 killing of Terre Haute Police Detective and FBI Task Force Officer Gregory Ferency. Meehan was previously charged by a federal criminal complaint filed on July 8, 2021.

Terre Haute Police Officer shot and killed in the line of duty this afternoon

A law enforcement officer from the Terre Haute Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this afternoon, Wednesday, July 7, in Terre Haute. Multiple first responders and officers from several agencies responded to an area on South First Street at a federal office or building around 2 p.m. The public information officer for THPD has confirmed the officer is deceased but no other information about the officer’s name or circumstances around the incident have been released - more information is expected to be released later today. The suspect is a white man driving a gold or silver pickup truck with rear-end damage. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The Terre Haute Tribune Star reported officers appeared to be engaged with a suspect near Regional Hospital but that has not been otherwise confirmed. Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to call 911.
