In Vigo County: Collaborative Police Investigation Leads to Discovery of Narcotics and U.S. Currency

Vigo County - On Friday, April 7, 2023, after a lengthy collaborative investigation involving the Indiana State Police, Terre Haute Police Department, Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, officers were able to collect enough evidence leading to the arrest of five suspects. These suspects were involved in a large-scale methamphetamine and marijuana distribution organization.

TERRE HAUTE – A federal grand jury in Indianapolis returned an indictment today charging a Terre Haute man with the murder of a federal officer, attempted arson of federal property, and using a firearm during a crime of violence causing death. The charges against Shane Meehan, 45, stem from the July 7, 2021 killing of Terre Haute Police Detective and FBI Task Force Officer Gregory Ferency. Meehan was previously charged by a federal criminal complaint filed on July 8, 2021.

Terre Haute Police Officer shot and killed in the line of duty this afternoon

A law enforcement officer from the Terre Haute Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this afternoon, Wednesday, July 7, in Terre Haute. Multiple first responders and officers from several agencies responded to an area on South First Street at a federal office or building around 2 p.m. The public information officer for THPD has confirmed the officer is deceased but no other information about the officer’s name or circumstances around the incident have been released - more information is expected to be released later today. The suspect is a white man driving a gold or silver pickup truck with rear-end damage. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The Terre Haute Tribune Star reported officers appeared to be engaged with a suspect near Regional Hospital but that has not been otherwise confirmed. Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to call 911. Vigo County - This morning, Saturday, June 12, 2021, the two persons of interest in the Carlisle shooting, which occurred on June 10, 2021, have been located. Matthew T. Earle and Kyle R. Johnson were taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 1700 block of S. 12th St. in Terre Haute………. UPDATE with bonds: The Indiana State Police, along with the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office, continue to collect and analyze evidence related to this crime. The preliminary charges are merely probable cause to make an arrest. Formal charges will be determined by the Sullivan County Prosecutor upon a full review of the evidence, at which time it is anticipated further charges will be added. Both Kyle R. Johnson and Matthew T. Earle are currently incarcerated and being held on a $30,000 bond with no 10%. Again, this an active and ongoing investigation.

VCSD investigating morning homicide, asking for help from the public

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a morning homicide in southern Vigo County. They’re looking for a suspect and are asking for information from the public.

Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse reported that VCSD deputies responded at 9:45 a.m. this morning, Thursday, May 27, to 7755 Carlisle Street in southern Vigo County on a death investigation.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 72-year-old female, Gayle Wilson, deceased in the home. This death is being investigated as a homicide investigation at this time.

“The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help,” said Plasse. “We are looking for a 2017 silver Subaru Outback, plate number 830TKR.”

Plasse said a 40-year-old male named Michael Wilson is also wanted for questioning on this case.

Yesterday, Monday, May 10, Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse announced that the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office missing person Jessica Nascimbene had been located. Jessica’s vehicle was located last Friday evening in Clay County on State Road 59, down a steep ravine and submerged in water. Jessica was located in her vehicle and was found to be deceased. It appears Jessica‘s vehicle left the roadway in an apparent motor vehicle accident prior to Friday evening. The investigation is ongoing. The sheriff offered the thoughts and prayers from VCSD to Jessica‘s friends and family.
