VIGO COUNTY — An autopsy was completed Saturday, May 5, on fallen Terre Haute Police Officer Rob Pitts. The autopsy was performed by Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos has released the preliminary results as: Cause of death was single gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was homicide. No other information will be released.

Officer Pitts was tragically killed during an exchange of gunfire with a possible homicide suspect Friday evening at the Garden Quarter Apartments.

The homicide suspect autopsy is expected to be performed this coming Monday, May 07, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Upon completion, the name of the suspect is expected to be released. 

Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators continue to investigate the death of Officer Pitts and the suspect. At the conclusion of the ISP investigation, all information will be submitted to the Office of Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt for review.
