Carol Jean Kramer, 90, of Linton, went home to be with her loved ones in Heaven at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Born December 14, 1935, in Rensselaer, Indiana, Carol Jean was the daughter of Victor D. and Beulah I. (Brown) Mutchler.

A bright and dedicated student, she graduated as valedictorian from Brookston High School in 1954. She later attended Purdue University and was an avid sports fan. Especially her beloved Boilermakers. "Boiler Up"

On June 2, 1957, Carol Jean married the love of her life, Gerald R. “Jerry” Kramer. Together they shared 53 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, and treasured memories until Jerry’s passing in 2011.

Carol Jean found joy in both adventure and life’s quiet comforts. She loved traveling, being in 45 states and several foreign countries. Especially visiting college campuses and birth-places of famous people. Some of her favorite moments were the simple ones: enjoying a glass of sweet tea, sitting on her porch swing talking with neighbors and enjoying her flowers. She also loved visiting with family, and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those who knew Carol Jean will remember her as a caring listener and a thoughtful, generous presence in the lives of others. She had a special way of letting people know they were remembered - often through a flower arrangement or a handwritten card. Sending flowers and cards was more than a kindness to Carol Jean; it was her ministry of love and encouragement.

She was a faithful member of Saron United Church of Christ, Saron's Young Adults Fellowship, Saron's Women's Guild and a proud 68-year member of Psi Iota Xi. Her dedication to the organization was evident in her service as its Initiation Officer for 40 years.

Carol Jean is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jo Ellen Kramer; her son and daughter-in-law, J. Kevin and Susan Kramer; her grandchildren and their spouses, A. Kolin and Rachael Lynn Kramer, Valerie Renae and Mark R. Boone, and Kylie Marie and Jared P. Fishero; and her great-grandchildren, Quinn Violet Kramer, Hugh Kramer Boone, Heidi Noelle Boone, Bowen Reid Fishero, and Emmie Ann Fishero.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Vic and Lana Mutchler; her nephews, Christopher Mutchler, Bradford Mutchler, and Noah Mutchler; her niece, Daphne Mutchler; and many beloved cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Gerald R. “Jerry” Kramer and angel baby, Benton Cooper Fishero.

Carol Jean’s legacy lives on in the warmth she gave so freely, the family she loved deeply, and the many lives she touched with her thoughtful heart.

A funeral service to celebrate Carol Jean's life will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, of Walton Funeral Service, at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 17, 2026, with Rev. Rhonda Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 PM, and Monday from 12 noon until the time of service.

Memorial donations may be given to the Greene County Foundation for the Jo Ellen Kramer Legacy Fund, through the funeral home.
