Linton Fire Department shares winter weather preparedness and safety reminders
/As winter weather is expected to move into the area, the Linton Fire Department is encouraging residents to prepare in advance and take steps to stay safe before and after the storm.
Fire officials urge residents to plan ahead for work, school and essential travel in the event heavy snow impacts the area. Residents are also encouraged to stock up on medications, food and other necessities ahead of time and to check on neighbors who may need assistance preparing for winter conditions.
Following the storm, the department asks motorists to remain patient and allow road crews time to clear and treat roadways before traveling. Staying off the roads when possible not only improves personal safety but also allows emergency responders and public works crews to perform their duties more efficiently.
The department is also asking residents to assist with post-storm safety efforts if they are able. Clearing snow away from fire hydrants can help firefighters quickly locate and access them during emergencies. Residents who can safely do so are also encouraged to clear sidewalks and driveways to improve access for fire, EMS and law enforcement personnel if emergency response is needed.
For current road conditions and traffic camera views, residents can visit the Indiana 511 website. Fire officials also recommend following local emergency management agencies, government social media pages and trusted local news outlets for the most accurate and up-to-date information during winter weather events.
Fire officials emphasized that preparation and smart travel decisions can make a significant difference during severe weather, noting that crews will remain available to respond as needed throughout the storm.
