Herbert Eugene "Gene" Bailey, age 88, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 2:50 am on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Linton, IN on June 21, 1937. He was the son of Curtis & Elizabeth Lucile (Hopkins) Bailey.

He was a graduate of Linton Stockton High School. He worked as a welder for Otis Elevator until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting for ducks and geese but he especially loved being outdoors any chance he could.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Mary Joann Bailey of Linton; daughters, Sherry Hall of Bloomfield and Roxanne Bailey of Louisville, KY; step-daughter, Linda Sullivan-Hagen; step-son, Troy Myers; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as his brother, Rodney "Beetle" Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lisa Bailey; son, Lonnie Bailey; step-son, Todd "Bubba" Myers; sister, Veronica Moss as well as brothers, Jerry Bailey and Ralph Dewaine Bailey.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton of Walton Funeral Service, Inc on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 with Pastor Archie Ellett officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.
