Clara Alice Tapscott
/Clara Alice Tapscott, 84, of Worthington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, March 3, 2026, at Glenburn Senior Living in Linton, surrounded by her loving family. Born at home in Spencer on December 29, 1941, to Alvis and Nellie (Sheets) Speas, Clara grew up in a close-knit family that valued hard work, faith, and kindness - qualities she carried throughout her life.
Clara was a proud graduate of Coal City High School. She dedicated more than thirty years to Four-Rivers, where her reliability and compassion made her a beloved co-worker and friend. Over the years, her strong work ethic and welcoming spirit shone through in everything she did - whether she was managing apartments, helping customers at JoAnn Fabrics, or brightening someone's day with an Avon delivery and a warm smile.
Outside of work, Clara found joy in the simple things. She loved crocheting cozy gifts for her family, tending to her garden, and keeping her home a place of comfort and care. Her hands were rarely still, and her heart was always open. A devoted Christian woman, Clara's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She cherished her church family at Faithway Bible Church in Worthington, where she worshiped faithfully and built lasting friendships.
Above all, Clara's greatest love was her family. She was a proud and devoted mother to Cathie (Randy) Allen, Ralph William "Willie" (Mary) Smock, and Bruce Tapscott; and she beamed with pride over her grandchildren - Rochelle (Kyle) Boyd, Levi (Melissa) Allen, Amber (Matt) Sirignano, and John Smock - and her growing circle of great-grandchildren: Dax Boyd, Aiden, Willow, Graciela, and Kana Allen, as well as Alice and Evelyn Sirignano. She also leaves behind her siblings, Leonard Speas and Sandy McNabb, who will forever cherish her memory and laughter.
Clara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William "Bill" C. Tapscott; her infant child; her parents; several siblings; and precious granddaughter Ashley Allen.
A funeral service celebrating Clara's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, of Walton Funeral Service, with Pastor Terry Dowell officiating. Visitation will be held the same day from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
Those who knew and loved Clara will remember her for her gentle spirit, her steadfast faith, and the way she made every person feel valued and loved. She will be deeply missed, but her kindness and devotion will live on in all whose lives she touched.
