ISP Bloomington increasing patrols to promote safe travels this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year. For 2021, AAA has estimated that 48.3 million Americans will travel by automobile over the Thanksgiving holiday; an 8% increase over 2020. The Indiana State Police in Bloomington wants to remind every motorist of the importance of driving responsibly during this holiday period. Troopers will join hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the state for the Safe Family Travel campaign. Over the next six weeks, officers will be out in greater numbers to discourage impaired driving and ensure drivers and passengers are properly buckled.

UPDATE on Saturday morning - Road is Open........ Section of North CR 1000 West, aka Lone Tree Road, closed due to semi crash

North County Road 1000 West, also known as Lone Tree Road, between County Roads 300 North and 400 North, has been closed since 5:57 p.m. due to a semi rolled over into a ditch. The semi was carrying a load of frozen turkeys. GCSD Deputy Logan Milligan said the road will be closed until further notice.

The crash occurred at 5:57 p.m. today, Friday, November 19, on North CR 1000 West. Jermaine Dawson, 39, of Valdosta, Georgia, was driving a Volvo Semi that was transporting frozen turkeys. Dawson was northbound on CR 1000 West when he met another semi that was southbound between CR 300 and 400 North.

According to Deputy Milligan, Dawson moved over causing the semi’s passenger side tires to run off the roadway into the ditch. He then tried to correct but the tires hit the soft shoulder of the ditch, causing the trailer to roll on its side in the ditch.

In addition to Deputy Milligan and other personnel from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, other agencies assisting on the scene include the Greene County Ambulance Service, Switz City Fire Department, Wright Township Fire Department and Poor Boy’s Towing Company.

No injuries have been reported at time of post.

This story will be updated if more information is released.
