A Jasonville man who said he was drunk was arrested on Sunday for calling 911 repeatedly. He didn’t have an emergency. Dispatch said he was calling them names.

Stephen Scott Wheeler

Stephen Scott Wheeler, 48, Jasonville, was arrested on Sunday afternoon, November 14, by Officer Andrew Duguay of the Jasonville Police Department.

When Officer Duguay was dispatched to a residence on South Washington Street in Jasonville on Sunday afternoon, Greene County Dispatch told him Stephen Wheeler had called 911 six times. Dispatch said Wheeler didn’t have an emergency but was calling the dispatchers names.

When Officer Duguay talked to Wheeler outside his residence, he told Wheeler to stop calling 911 if he didn’t have an emergency. Wheeler allegedly said he was very drunk and was probably not going to do that. And then he went back inside his residence.

As soon as Officer Duguay left, Wheeler called 911 again. This time he put the phone down, leaving the line open.

When Officer Duguay returned to Wheeler’s residence, Wheeler was taken into custody for intentionally placing a 911 call for a purpose other than obtaining public assistance or emergency services.

Wheeler was transported to Greene County General Hospital for a medical clearance then to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 3:26 p.m. His bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $100 and been released from jail.

Wheeler’s initial hearing is set for November 29 in Greene Superior Court when he will be formally charged with unlawful use of the 911 service, a Class A misdemeanor.
