Linton man arrested, accused of battery in a Bloomfield workplace
/A Linton man has been arrested and notified he’s not to step foot back on the property of his former employer following an incident of workplace violence in Bloomfield.
Joseph Kenneth Myers, 30, Linton, was arrested by Deputy Logan Milligan of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday night, November 21.
Deputy Milligan and GCSD Deputy Sgt. Jordan Allor arrived at Metal Technologies on East State Road 54, Bloomfield, around 5:20 p.m. Sunday after the manager reported Myers, who was working there, had just been involved in a physical altercation with another employee and a supervisor asked Myers to leave.
When the deputies talked to the employee, they noticed redness on his throat and swelling on his right cheek and forehead. Apparently, Myers had said the employee had been talking about Myers but the employee said he didn’t know what he was talking about. The employee said Myers had tried to convince others to get the employee to go outside to smoke, but when he realized the employee didn’t smoke and wasn’t going outside, he approached the employee inside the building. According to the employee, Myers grabbed him by the throat and started hitting him multiple times, but the employee didn’t hit back.
One witness told the deputies he saw Myers come around a corner where the employee was working and then start beating up on the employee. He said Myers had whispered something in the employee’s ear then started swinging punches into the employee’s head and stomach.
Another witness confirmed Myers had texted her numerous times asking her to convince the employee to go outside. She said when she saw Myers in person, she told him to calm down and not lose his job or go to jail. She said Myers pushed her out of the way and knocked her into a railing then ran to the employee.
Yet another witness confirmed the details of the altercation.
By 10:34 p.m., Deputy Milligan and Sgt. Allor arrived at Myers’ residence in Linton to talk to Myers. According to Deputy Milligan, Myers said the employee pushed him before the fight and he didn’t want to go into details about what the fight was about.
Deputy Milligan said Myers had dried blood on the knuckles of both of his hands.
Myers was arrested and transported to the Greene County Jail where he was booked in at 11:18 p.m.
Myers has been served with a notice to not trespass on the Metal Technologies property and Deputy Milligan has been provided with video evidence from the Metal Tech cameras that shows the altercation.
His bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of late Tuesday afternoon, he had not yet posted bond and remained in custody.
A criminal case was filed against Myers earlier today. His initial hearing is set for Monday morning, November 29, in Greene Superior Court.
Myers is facing a charge of battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
