Worthington man arrested in Linton over the weekend

A Worthington man was arrested on drug charges over the weekend after he was stopped by an LPD officer for failing to signal a turn.

Harold Lee Meek

Harold Lee Meek, 45, Worthington, was arrested in Linton by Officer Cayden Walker of the Linton Police Department early Sunday, May 15.

Around 1:26 AM Sunday when Officer Walker was on patrol on West Vincennes Street in Linton, he saw a red Ford F-150 make a turn onto West Vincennes Street without using a turn signal. Officer Walker initiated a traffic stop and the truck pulled over at the intersection of West Vincennes Street and 3rd Street NW.

Harold Meek was the driver with two passengers on board. While talking to Meek, Officer Walker said he saw a red and clear metal grinder containing a green plant material sitting in front of the speedometer on the dash in plain view. He said he could also smell the odor of burnt and raw marijuana coming from the vehicle.

With Officer Zach Goad assisting on the stop, the driver and passengers were asked to exit the vehicle and were advised the vehicle would be searched due to the grinder in plain view.

In addition to the grinder on the dash, during the search, the officers reported finding a clear glass smoking device with white residue in the place where people put their sunglasses—the pipe field tested positive for methamphetamine. They also located a blue metal grinder containing a green plant material and two zip style baggies containing green plant material plus a white cylinder container in the storage area of the driver seat that contained more green plant material and another metal smoking device containing burnt material.

One of the passengers claimed everything that was marijuana or marijuana-related belonged to him and he was advised that information would be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for possible charges.

But Meek said the grinder with the marijuana in it was his and he also took responsibility for the pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine even though he said it had been left in his vehicle by someone else earlier in the week.

Meek was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 2:31 AM. He was being held without bond pending court appearance.

Meek is scheduled to be in Greene Superior Court tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, May 17, for his initial hearing on charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
