A Bloomfield man was arrested earlier this week after authorities received an anonymous call reporting he had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.

The Linton Water Department has announced its previously scheduled hydrant flushing, which was set to begin Sunday, October 5, has been postponed due to ongoing drought conditions.

Eastern Heights Utilities will begin routine hydrant flushing in Bloomfield and Worthington on Monday, October 6. Customers may notice lower-than-normal water pressure and temporary water discoloration during this period. Flushing in rural service areas will follow in the coming weeks.

Linton Municipal Utilities has issued a Boil Order Advisory for the following affected areas until further notice:

• All customers on Southeast 8th Street (south of the C Street railroad tracks)

• All customers on Southeast 7th Street (south of the C Street railroad tracks)

• All customers on Southeast 6th Street (south of Little A Street)

• All customers on South State Road 59 (south of Base Road)

• All customers on I Street Southeast

• All customers on J Street Southeast

• All customers on L Street Southeast

• All Base Road customers

• All customers on Southeast 1st Street

• All customers on Southeast 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th Streets (south of Base Road)

• All customers on Southeast L, M, N, and O Streets

Residents in these areas are advised to boil all water before using it for drinking, cooking, food preparation, or oral hygiene. Water should be brought to a full boil for at least five minutes before use.

A Lyons man, who pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his ex-wife and teenage son, whose bodies were discovered last fall in a shallow grave in Sullivan County, was sentenced Monday to 120 years in prison.

A routine traffic stop in Linton resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and the arrest of a Shelburn man on felony theft charges.

The Linton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in finding Jerry Stephens Jr., who was last seen Friday morning. According to police, Stephens was last seen around 10 a.m. on September 26 and last heard from at approximately 1 p.m. the same day. He was wearing black pants and a red-and-white flannel shirt when he was last observed. Anyone with information on Stephens’ whereabouts is urged to call the Linton Police Department at 812-847-4411 or contact their local law enforcement agency immediately.

As of 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 24, the City of Linton’s boil order has been lifted.

An Indiana State Police traffic stop on Interstate 69 earlier this year has resulted in multiple charges against a Petersburg man after lab results confirmed the presence of fentanyl in his blood.

A Carlisle man was arrested Sept. 20 on a warrant after investigators say he failed to pay more than $13,000 in court-ordered child support over an eight-year period.

With Halloween approaching, the Linton Police Department is encouraging families to plan for a fun and safe celebration. Officers will provide additional patrols on Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.—the community’s official trick-or-treat hours.

The Linton Water Department will perform scheduled maintenance on the water system beginning Monday, September 22, at 9:00 p.m. The work is expected to be finished by Tuesday, September 23, at 6:00 a.m. During this time, customers may experience low water pressure or a temporary loss of water service. Because of this maintenance, a Boil Water Advisory will be in effect starting 9:00 p.m. on September 22 and will remain in place until water samples are tested and confirmed safe to drink. The advisory is expected to be lifted by Wednesday, September 24, 2025, but an official cancellation notice will be issued once testing is complete.
