Warrant out for Linton man accused of battery to a pregnant woman

A Linton man, who already had one case pending against him for meth possession, was arrested last week for battery to a pregnant woman. He bonded out of jail but earlier today, a warrant was issued for his arrest in the meth case.

Richard James Wilkins, Jr., 37, Linton, was arrested by Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department early last Thursday.

Around 5 a.m., Officer McDonald was dispatched to a motel in Linton where a woman had reported that she was pregnant and Richard Wilkins Jr., had gotten physical with her. The woman was transported to the police department for an interview.

The woman allegedly said she was in a relationship with Wilkins and was pregnant with their child when they rented a motel room for an evening but while they were watching television, Wilkins got angry with her because she would not pick at bumps on his head. She said when she started putting on her shoes to leave, Wilkins took her phone then put her in a headlock. She alleged that as they wrestled, with her trying to get out of the headlock, she started yelling for help but he put his hand over her mouth.

Later when Officer McDonald was able to talk to Wilkins at the police department, he confirmed the two had been arguing over the woman looking at bumps on his head. He alleged that when the woman started screaming, he got up and left the motel room, got into his car and drove off. He denied putting the woman in a headlock and denied touching her. Officer McDonald asked how the woman’s glasses got broken and how she got scratches and red marks on her body. Wilkins alleged the woman did it to herself.

Wilkins was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 7:14 a.m.

Wilkins is facing a preliminary charge of battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a Level 5 felony. His initial hearing is set for May 10.

When Wilkins was booked in, his bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted bond and been released, but earlier today, a warrant was issued for his arrest in another case.

In an earlier case pending against Wilkins, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. Early Tuesday, May 4, after a petition to revoke his bond was filed, the court found probable case to believe he had violated the terms of his release and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
