Man arrested, admitted guilt, sentenced and served time in less than a month
/When a man arrested less than a month ago appeared in court and was charged with theft, he didn’t ask for a public defender and told the judge he wanted to plead guilty. A few days later he was sentenced. With good time credit, he should be released on Saturday.
Daniel Andrew Scoles, 40, of Kokomo, was arrested by Officer Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department on Monday, July 29.
On that day, a couple had made a report to the LPD that their bank account had unusual debits for payments to businesses in Linton. Officer Yingling began an investigation and discovered a debit card for their bank account had been used at Allen’s Motel, at Pizza Hut and at Monical’s Pizza, five different times, for various amounts.
Yingling determined Scoles had used the card at the motel where he was staying with another individual. Both had jobs and were working in Linton.
Scoles was interviewed then transported and booked into the Greene County Jail before 6 p.m. on the same day the couple made the report.
Two days later, when Scoles went to court for his initial hearing, he was charged with five counts of theft, all Class A misdemeanors. He told the court he would like to admit guilt without a plea agreement and a change of plea and sentencing hearing was set for Tuesday, August 13.
On August 13, a plea agreement was put in place and four counts were dismissed while Scoles pleaded guilty to one count.
He was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail and given 19 days credit for time already served since his arrest. According to jail records, with good time credit, he would be eligible to be released tomorrow, Saturday, August 24.
