A Jasonville man allegedly took off running when confronted by two Jasonville police officers about an incident in violation of a protective order in which the man is accused of battery, confinement and strangulation. He didn’t get far before he was apprehended and taken to jail.

Jason Lynn Fulford, 46 at the time of his arrest, now 47, Jasonville, was arrested by Officer Skylar Scott of the Jasonville Police Department on Thursday mid-morning, February 10, as a result of Officer Scott’s investigation into an incident that occurred in the early morning hours.

At the time of the incident, a valid protective order was in effect, ordering Fulford to have no-contact with a woman who lives in Jasonville. Also at that time, Fulford was living or staying with a family member in the area, but the location was actually in Sullivan County.

The woman protected by the order went to the Jasonville Police Department early Thursday to report the incident involving Fulford. She said she got home around 10:30 the night before, after work, and had fallen asleep in her bedroom. She woke up around 3 a.m.

When Officer Scott interviewed her, she said Fulford had forced open the front door of her home. She said she grabbed her phone and walked to the doorway of her bedroom. Fulford was allegedly running down the hallway toward her.

According to Officer Scott’s report, she said she tried to get out of the house through a door located in the hallway outside her bedroom but she didn’t reach it in time and Fulford tackled her then put his hand over her mouth and nose so she couldn’t scream. She also said she couldn’t breathe and he took her phone away so she couldn’t call 911. He did then remove his hand from her face and started making demands and she described how terrified she was while he was there and how she attempted to meet his demands so he wouldn’t continue hurting her.

When he said she could either drive him to his residence or he was going to take her vehicle, she drove him to his residence and dropped him off then ended up at the police department to file a report.

Officer Scott took photos of her injuries that included redness to her face and one side of her neck and then Officer Scott and Deputy Kelly Hutchens of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department went to her residence where they took more photos – of damage to the front door and blood stains on the floor and carpet.

Other officers were requested to assist when Officer Scott went to Fulford’s residence. When he arrived and was waiting on backup, he saw Fulford come out and walk down the driveway then saw him on a tractor. Fulford was asked several times to get off the tractor but he refused. Then when he did get off the tractor, the officer could see a large machete on his right hip and he told Fulford to not come any closer.

Fulford then turned and went inside the residence, then came back out and went back in several times before he threw the machete into the front yard, went back inside again then went out the back door of the residence.

Chief Ryan Van Horn arrived and tried to talk to Fulford and told him he needed to go to the Jasonville Police Department to talk. Fulford said he would not go. Chief Van Horn told Fulford he was going to jail and Fulford said he was not going to jail.

At that point, Fulford allegedly got up and started running through a field behind the residence and Officer Scott and Chief Van Horn took off to pursue Fulford on foot. Fulford was advised he would be tased if he didn’t stop but Fulford kept running. Officer Scott deployed his Taser which was effective. Fulford was restrained and taken into custody.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Deputy Dave Holmes had also arrived on scene and due to Fulford’s combative behavior, Deputy Holmes offered to transport Fulford in his patrol vehicle which was equipped with a cage.

Prior to transport, Sullivan County EMS personnel arrived to remove the taser prongs from Fulford’s back. Deputy Holmes then transported Fulford to Greene County General Hospital for a medical check.

Fulford allegedly continued combative behavior at the hospital and several times said he intended to find Officer Scott and harm him once Fulford got out of jail. A caged patrol vehicle then arrived from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Fulford was transported to jail by Jail Officer Angel Chaparro.

Fulford’s bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed.
