Florida man accused of going 108 mph through Greene County

A Florida man accused of traveling at 108 mph on I-69 in Greene County this spring has been charged with reckless driving.

Edwin H. McMullen III of Destin, Florida, was the driver of a white pickup truck pulled over by Indiana State Police Trooper Eric Nash back on April 1.

Trooper Nash was on patrol on I-69 around 9:30 a.m. that day when he saw the white pickup in the left lane passing a semi-truck at a high rate of speed.

When Nash activated his radar unit, he determined the pickup truck was going 108 mph in a 70 mph zone and he initiated a traffic stop.

McMullen was the driver. He was not arrested but a summons was later issued to McMullen, 22 at the time of the incident, now 23, ordering him to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing.

The hearing was held last week telephonically due to the COVID-19 pandemic and McMullen has been charged with reckless driving at unreasonable speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.

During the traffic stop, McMullen allegedly admitted he knew he was going that fast while driving straight through from Florida. He said he was just in a hurry to get to where he was going in Indiana.
