One woman is facing criminal charges after a verbal altercation between two women escalated into a physical altercation resulting in one going to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Christy McBride, 42, Linton, is being summoned to appear in Greene Superior Court on August 13.

The fight between the two women occurred late on Wednesday, June 13. It was not reported to police right away, but when one of the women later went to Greene County General Hospital for treatment of injuries, hospital personnel called the Greene County Sheriff’s Department to report they were treating a woman who had been assaulted.

Deputy David Elmore responded and interviewed the alleged victim at her home after she was released from the hospital. He also interviewed McBride and he interviewed several individuals who were at the alleged victim’s home and witnessed all or part of the fight.

Elmore reported the fight took place outside the alleged victim’s home in the Linton area after McBride had given someone a ride there and they were sitting in the driveway talking. The alleged victim then came out of her house and told McBride to leave, but there was a verbal altercation which turned into a physical altercation when McBride got out of her vehicle.

In a lengthy probable cause affidavit prepared by Deputy Elmore, he details all of the conversations he had with the two women and the witnesses. All confirmed most of the basic details of the incident with some variations. The two women ended up fighting on the ground, allegedly with a head banged, fist punches and knees thrown, hair pulled and some kicks.

The victim allegedly had been bitten on a finger, had bruised arms and scratches on her face, neck, forearms, a wrist and her back, and she said doctors told her she had whiplash.

Following the deputy’s investigation, a criminal case was filed late last week against McBride and a summons issued. When she appears in court, she will be charged with:

Battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor,
Criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Disorderly conduct involving fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor
