Child bitten by dog; Dog owner facing misdemeanor

A child riding a bicycle in the Vicksburg area was bitten by a dog in mid-September. The dog was quarantined and the owner is facing a misdemeanor charge because the dog had not been vaccinated for four years.

A summons has been issued to Annetta L. Goble, 43, Jasonville, ordering her to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing on Thursday, November 12.

Goble is facing a preliminary charge of harboring a non-immunized dog that caused injury, a Class B misdemeanor, as a result of an investigation by Deputy Terry Wade of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Wade reported that on Friday, September 18, a woman was walking in the area of County Road 1375 West and County Road 400 North, an area known as Vicksburg located between Jasonville and Linton. The woman was walking while her son was riding his bike on the county road when a dog came onto the road and bit the child on the right lower leg.

The woman notified the sheriff’s department and Sgt. Bobby Pierce was dispatched. The woman did not know the owner of the dog, but she was able to describe that the dog had come from the property with a blue trailer located at the intersection.

When Sgt. Pierce located the property, there were three dogs running at large and Annetta Goble claimed ownership of the dog, a collie/boxer mix, that had bitten the child.

Goble allegedly said the dog had been vaccinated four years earlier but was not up-to-date on vaccinations. The dog was quarantined.

On September 28, Deputy Wade followed up with a visit to Goble’s residence and advised Goble that in Indiana, a dog over six months of age is required by law to be vaccinated for rabies, and the dog is to be vaccinated once the ten-day quarantine period has ended.

No additional information was released regarding the child’s injury.
