Bond set at $50,000 cash for man accused of brutally beating a woman

Bond has been set at $50,000 cash only for a Jasonville man who allegedly confined a woman in a bedroom for three days while he beat her with a baseball bat, left burn marks on her body from a torch and stabbed her legs with a steak knife. She received serious injuries on her face and entire body and was transported to Greene County General for medical treatment.

Jesse Dean Hill, 33, Jasonville, was arrested by Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Coy last Sunday, October 30.

Deputy Coy was dispatched at 3:34 PM on Sunday, along with Deputy Logan Milligan, to a residence in the Jasonville area, after an unknown caller told Greene County Dispatch that a woman who was badly injured had showed up at the house and another person at the house was holding a 9-millimeter handgun. The connection was lost and when dispatch tried to call back, there was no answer.

Sergeant Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department also responded and made it to the house first and said the woman had been at the residence but left in an orange Rav4.

When Deputy Coy and Deputy Milligan arrived around 3:49 PM, three men were standing on a deck outside the residence and one of the men surrendered the 9- millimeter handgun to Deputy Coy.

The man who surrendered the handgun said that Jesse Hill had beat him on Saturday night in the yard of the house. He said Jesse ran up to him, knocked his phone out of his hand, chased him inside the house and slammed him on the floor. He said he had a busted lip and he thought his ribs were cracked. He said he was carrying his firearm due to this incident. Then on Sunday when he went to visit his father at that house, Jesse Hill arrived after he did. Jesse arrived with his girlfriend who was badly injured and the man who surrendered the firearm said another woman at the house drove away in the orange vehicle to get the girlfriend away from Jesse Hill and also get her to the hospital for emergency care.

At that point, Deputy Coy was contacted by Greene County Dispatch via his portable radio to tell him the girlfriend had just arrived at Greene County General Hospital so Deputy Coy returned to his patrol vehicle to contact the hospital. When Deputy Coy talked to Special Deputy Chapparo at GCGH, he was told the girlfriend arrived in bad condition but she was able to say that Jesse Hill was the person who had assaulted her.

Deputy Coy then returned to the deck where Jesse Hill was standing and told him he was being detained for an investigation of injuries suffered by his girlfriend. Hill was handcuffed, placed in Deputy Coy’s patrol vehicle and then Hill requested an attorney before his rights were even read but after his Miranda rights were read, Hill agreed to continue to speak to Deputy Coy without an attorney present.

Hill was transported to the sheriff's department where he was booked into the Greene County Jail at 4:55 PM.

When the woman who transported the girlfriend to the hospital arrived back at the house, she told Deputy Milligan she had gone to the house to borrow a vehicle when the man who surrendered the gun came inside and said to keep Jesse Hill away from him. She said Jesse Hill asked to use her phone and she did not know why but while he was using the phone, the girlfriend had hidden inside the orange vehicle she was borrowing and the woman drove her to Greene County General Hospital after the girlfriend said Jesse Hill had kept her locked in a room for three days and beat her.

Deputy Milligan then went to Greene County General Hospital to talk to the victim and reported the victim said Hill had been beating her over the past three days. According to the affidavit prepared by Deputy Coy, the victim said Jesse Hill used a baseball bat, a torch and other items to beat her. She said on Sunday she talked him into going to the residence of a family member to get a drink and when he went inside she ran and hid.

The alleged victim said Jesse Hill had kept her in a small bedroom in his residence with a mattress blocking her way out and she had to urinate in bottles because he would not allow her to use the bathroom. She said they had been seeing each other for about six weeks and this incident started three days earlier when Hill lost his “bag of dope” and blamed her for stealing it. She said he barely fed her and the injuries she suffered occurred over three days. She said he used a bat, a torch, a steak knife, and a pool stick, as well as his hands and feet.

The victim alleged that at one point he told her that he could not let her go because she would get him in trouble and he would go back to prison so he was going to kill her and he poked her in the legs with a steak knife asking her if she had feeling in her legs.

According to the affidavit, the victim’s eyes were almost swollen shut, both of her hands were swollen, she was covered in bruises and appeared to have been burned in multiple places on her body.

The victim signed a consent form for deputies to search the residence she shared with Jesse Hill, where this incident took place.

Later that evening, Deputy Coy, Deputy Milligan and Deputy Weeks arrived at the residence they shared. They knocked but no one answered. The front door was unlocked and unlatched so they announced their presence but no one was at the residence and they searched it for the items the victim had described as those being used to assault her.

Deputy Coy reported they found a silver aluminum baseball bat outside the bedroom door. Also outside the bedroom next to the refrigerator was a broken pool stick. Inside the bedroom they found a green torch lighter. Next to the sink in the kitchen were multiple steak knives.

No additional information or details have been released regarding the victim’s injuries or her condition.

Jesse Hill was first booked into jail on a preliminary charge of Level 5 felony domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury with bond set at $10,000 surety with 10% cash allowed. That has changed.

With the findings from the ongoing investigation that day, more charges have been added and his bond has been increased.

On Tuesday, November 1, Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw filed a criminal case against Jesse Hill in Greene Circuit Court and Hill’s initial hearing was held that afternoon before Magistrate Lucas Rudisill via video connection between the jail and the courtroom.

Hill has been charged with:

  • Confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony,

  • Intimidation where defendant draws or uses a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony,

  • Three counts of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, all are Level 5 felonies, and

  • Domestic battery with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.

A public defender was appointed to represent him and he was served with a no-contact order, ordering him to have no contact with the victim in this case.

In addition, the affidavit and the court record both indicate that the prosecution intends to ask for a sentence enhancement for being an habitual criminal.

According to Deputy Coy, in September of 2022, Hill was convicted of domestic battery in the presence of a minor under the age of 16, a Level 6 felony. In December of 2011, he has a conviction for burglary, a Class B felony. In November of 2016, he has a conviction for domestic battery, a Level 6 felony.

Hill remains behind bars. With the additional charges, his bond was increased to $50,000 cash only.
