School attendance is in the hot seat this year as a new state statute requires schools to report excessive unexcused absences to county officials and in turn, county officials will be required to file charges against parents.

A 58-year-old Jasonville man, arrested July 20 on alcohol-related charges, is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court Sept. 11 for a pre-trial conference after waiving his initial hearing on Aug. 1.

After Greene County’s Clerk announced he was resigning from the position effective July 31, county Republican precinct committeemen were tasked with selecting a replacement. That replacement has been selected and she is ready to serve the residents of Greene County. 

Police officers do more than write traffic tickets and make arrests. In fact, officers at the Linton Police Department are stepping up to meet the needs of those in need through a newly-formed Emergency Supply Program.

A 32-year-old Linton man was arrested July 18 on a warrant for three counts of forgery and three counts of theft after allegedly stealing checks from a family member, writing them to himself, and cashing them.
